If you’re here reading this right now. I truly thank you.
If you are not normally inclined to read stuff, but you are here simply because you know me, and wanted to see what I was talking about – THANK YOU.
What motivated me to start this blog was my own New Year’s Revolution that took place for me during 2009. You may as well call my “revolution” The Hundred Years War, because as I stated in a previous blog entry – the battle never ever ends. I literally repeat this out loud to myself a few times a day. In fact you have already won the war with your
biggest challenge, once you realize you can never stop fighting.
Here I go with my rhymes but, THE TEST OF YOUR LIFE OFTEN TAKES THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.
In my case, I thought my largest challenge was my weight. The weight is just a byproduct; my biggest challenge was getting the courage to change my weight by getting off my bum-bum, and working out. I won’t go into all the layers of my situation
just yet – but lets just say that in December of 2008 I decided to stop talking and start walking – literally. By treating the source of my troubles, I have experienced many bonuses. I am happier, less stressed, and I have lowered my blood pressure. I am conquering depression (yes smiley-face Kristin has dealt with depression issues – EVERYONE has a story), and I have shed some pounds.
2010 will be here before you know it; my hope is to get at least a few folks to accompany me, as I continue to hone the good habits I’ve picked up in 2009.
You may be facing some of the same hang-ups, stinkin-thinkin, and other issues I deal
with. I’d like to help you make a goal and keep it this year. That’s the purpose of this blog.
Lets Address the WEIGHT, the CLUTTER, the TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS, the CAREER COMPLEXES, SELF-ESTEEM ISSUES, the SPIRITUAL MATTERS, and everything else, that affects the choices we make ... the choices that ultimately shape our lives.
I’m getting things ramped up – so read my entries now, leading up to January, where we REALLY get to the matter of keeping each other in the fight, and creating our own realities in 2010, with long term solutions that will carry us beyond.
Remember – you create your own reality, or someone else will make you a bit-part player in theirs.
Again … thank you for stopping by. I truly appreciate your continued readership.

Kristin,
ReplyDeleteI love it! Scholar Barbara Christian once stated if "Black women do not say who they are, other people will say it badly, for them". So, like you suggest we must create our own realities! I know that this blog is targeting all women, and I think this statement is relevant to all women, white, Black, purple, green, orange, or blue. I am glad that you have created this space. I too have struggled with weight issues over the years and have made "fake" resolutions to lose it, but it has just been recently that I really decided to make a change. That decision came when I decided to change my life in all areas, not just weight, but mentally, physically, and spiritually (not necessarily religious, but just knowing my role in the community around me and knowing that what I do affects others, and realizing the dreams, aspirations, and legacies of my ancestors, and thanking them for the creation of ME, and knowing from that creation great things MUST happen). You are SO right it is really not about weight, it is about something larger. The inability to stay on target in all areas is a sign of a larger problem that we all should address beginning with the self. Kristin thanks again! I will check back periodically.
